OnePlus 3 can now run unofficial Nougat 7.1 (CyanogenMod 14.1) ROM full of many great features.
The latest Nougat 7.1 update has come for OnePlus 3 via CyanogenMod 14.1 ROM since Google released Android Nougat source code. Thanks to CyanogenMod developers team, OnePlus 3 users can enjoy the new generation Android OS, which officially so far not available on this device.

This TWRP install and Root tutorial is only for OnePlus 3 running Marshmallow OS.

Warning: All the data stored in internal memory won’t be deleted, but for safety reasons it’s still recommended to make a backup to device microSD card or PC before starting the tutorial below.
Prerequisites:
• OnePlus 3 bootloader must be unlocked. This tutorial shows how to do it.
• Device should have at least 60% charge left on the battery.
• USB Debugging and OEM unlock must be enabled. Go to Settings/About/Software Information/More and keep tapping on Build number until you see that Developer options was enabled. Then go to Settings/Developer Options and check both, USB Debugging and OEM unlock.
• Skip driver installation if you have used our bootloader unlock tutorial. If not, then go ahead and install adb drivers on PC. It’s recommended to restart your PC after installation is complete.
TWRP install tutorial:
  1. Connect OnePlus 3 to PC via USB cable.
  2. Using PC download recovery.img file and place it in ADB and Fastboot drivers folder.
  3. On PC open cmd window: holding shift key, right click on empty space in ADB and Fastboot drivers folder and choose Open command window here.
  4. On cmd window type fastboot devices then press enter. fastboot devices
  5. You should get a serial number approving that device is properly connected into fastboot mode. If not, try to connect cable to another PC USB port or reinstall the drivers.
  6. Now boot OnePlus 3 into fastboot mode by typing adb reboot bootloader and hitting enter.
  7. Next type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and hit enter.
  8. TWRP recovery will now be installed on your device.
  9. After installation is complete, type fastboot reboot recovery to reboot OnePlus 3 into TWRP recovery.
    You can also access TWRP menu by turning off the device and long pressing the power and volume down button simultaneously until you see TWRP recovery screen.
    Other way to boot into TWRP recovery without any specific buttons combination is to use Quick Boot app.

Root tutorial:

  1. Download SuperSU.zip file straight to mobile device.
  2. Boot OnePlus 3 into TWRP recovery by following 9th step written above.
  3. In recovery menu tap on Install and look for superuser.zip file.
  4. Tap on it and swipe to flash.TWRP flash SuperSU
  5. After flash is complete tap on Reboot and choose System.
  6. Phone will reboot and you should find SuperSU app on the screen.

OnePlus 3 is one of the greatest and the latest flagman released this month. As usual, it came with factory locked bootloader which prevents users from making any customization on their device. And it’s the main reason why we made this tutorial.
Whole procedure is quite simple and requires the usual ADB and Fastboot methods required by other Android devices.

Warning: Unlocking bootloader voids devices warranty. Proceed at your own risk.
During the unlock process, device internal storage will be erased. It’s strongly recommended to back up all data before getting started.

Prerequisites:
• USB Debugging and OEM unlock must be enabled. To enable it, go to Settings/About phone/Software info and tap on Build number 7 times. Go back and choose Developer options, then enable USB Debugging and OEM unlock.
ADB drivers must be installed on PC.

Tutorial:

  1. Connect OnePlus 3 to PC via USB cable.
  2. Using PC go to ADB and Fastboot drivers folder and open cmd window: holding shift key, right click on empty space in folder and choose Open command window here.
  3. On cmd window type fastboot devices and hit enter.
  4. You should get a serial number approving that device is properly connected into fastboot mode. If not, try to connect cable to another PC USB port or reinstall the drivers. fastboot devices
  5. You can also check bootloader status by typing fastboot oem device-info
    Device unlocked: false” proves that you can proceed. If you get “Device unlocked: true“, this means your device bootloader is already unlocked and there’s no need to proceed.

  6. Now lets boot OnePlus 3 into fastboot mode. To do so, type adb reboot bootloader and hit enter. OnePlus 3 fastboot mode screen will show up. Oneplus fastboot
  7. Next type fastboot oem unlock and hit enter. You will get the prompt to unlock the device on the OnePlus 3. Use the volume button to select and continue with Yes. OnePlus 3 bootloader prompt
    Unlock process should take just a couple of seconds. fastboot oem unlock
  8. Type fastboot reboot to reboot the device.
  9. To check the bootloader status, on cmd type fastboot unlock-info and hit enter. It should return True on unlock status approving that OnePlus 3 bootloader is successfully unlocked.
    Other way to check if bootloader is unlocked is to manually boot OnePlus 3 into bootloader mode: press the power button on the device to bring up the power menu, select Reboot/Bootloader and wait for the device to boot into bootloader mode. Below you should see DEVICE STATE – unlocked status. OnePlus 3 device state
