This TWRP flash and Root tutorial is only for Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet devices running Lollipop or Marshmallow.
Compatible Xperia Z4 Tablet models are listed below:

  • SGP771
  • SGP712

Before you start, please check if your Xperia Z4 Tablet is supported by going to Settings/About Phone.

Warning: All the data stored in internal memory won’t be deleted, but for safety reasons it’s still recommended to make a backup to device microSD card or PC before starting the tutorial below.
Prerequisites:
• Xperia Z4 Tablet bootloader must be unlocked. This tutorial shows how to do it.
• Device should have at least 60% charge left on the battery.
• USB Debugging and OEM unlock must be enabled. Go to Settings/About/Software Information/More and keep tapping on Build number until you see that Developer options was enabled. Then go to Settings/Developer Options and check both, USB Debugging and OEM unlock.
• Skip driver installation if you have completed our bootloader unlock tutorial and/or if you have PC Companion installed on PC. If not, then go ahead and install adb drivers. It’s recommended to restart your PC after installation is complete.
Tutorial:
  1. Using PC download TWRP-3.0.2-0-20160604.img recovery and kernel file depending on your Xperia Z4 Tablet model:
    SGp771
    SGP712
  2. Extract kernel.zip file.
  3. Place recovery (TWRP-3.0.2-0-20160604.img) and kernel (boot.img) files in ADB and Fastboot drivers folder.
  4. Turn off the device.
  5. Press and hold volume up (+) button while connecting your Xperia Z4 Tablet with your PC. Led notification light should turn to blue.
  6. On PC open cmd window: holding shift key, right click on empty space in ADB and Fastboot drivers folder and choose Open command window here.
  7. On cmd window type fastboot devices then press enter. fastboot devices
  8. You should get a serial number approving that device is properly connected into fastboot mode. If not, try to connect cable to another PC USB port or reinstall the drivers.
  9. Now flash recovery using the following command:
    fastboot flash boot TWRP-3.0.2-0-20160604.img
  10. Flash kernel by typing:
    fastboot flash boot boot.img 
  11. After it’s done, reboot device by typing:
    fastboot reboot

     

    That’s it! After device boots up you’ll see the SuperUser app in your app drawer indicating you have root access.
    To boot your device into TWRP recovery open cmd and type adb reboot recovery then hit enter.
    To do it manually, turn off Xperia then press power button to turn it on. Right after Sony logo appears, keep pressing volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously until device vibrates.
    Other way to boot into TWRP recovery without any specific buttons combination is to use Quick Boot app.

TWRP install tutorial:

  3. In recovery menu tap on Install and look for superuser.zip file. TWRP flash SuperSU
  4. Tap on it and swipe to flash.
  5. After flash is complete tap on Reboot and choose System.
  6. Phone will reboot and you should find SuperSU app on the screen.

Tutorial:
  1. Connect Xperia Z5 to PC via USB cable.
  2. Using PC download:
    twrp-3.0.2-0-E6653-20160417.img recovery file.
    z5_stock_32.0.A.4.11_R8B_fixed.7z kernel file and extract it, so you’ll get z5_stock_fixed.img file.
    BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip file, just do not extract this one.
  3. Place all files in ADB and Fastboot drivers folder.
  4. On PC open cmd window: holding shift key, right click on empty space in ADB and Fastboot drivers folder and choose Open command window here.
  5. On cmd window type fastboot devices then press enter. fastboot devices
  6. You should get a serial number approving that device is properly connected into fastboot mode. If not, try to connect cable to another PC USB port or reinstall the drivers.
  7. Now boot Xperia Z5 into fastboot mode by typing:
    adb reboot bootloader

    If your device asks for permission to Allow USB debugging, tap OK.

  8. When device boots up into fastboot mode, flash kernel using the following command:
    fastboot flash boot z5_stock_fixed.img
  9. Now boot your Xperia Z5 with the recovery.img file using the following command:
    fastboot boot recovery.img

    Phone will boot into TWRP recovery but you may see it on a black screen, it’s ok.

  10. Next, mount system and userdata partitions by typing:
    adb shell mount /dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/system /system
    adb shell mount /dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/userdata /data

    In case the above commands ends with the following error given below, just wait for couple of minutes and try again.
    Error:
    mount: mounting /dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/system on /system failed: No such file or directory

  11. Once you have the system and userdata partitions mounted,type the following commands to push SuperSU.zip to Xperia Z5 and install it:
    adb push BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip /data/media/0/
    adb shell twrp install /data/media/0/BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip
    adb shell rm /data/media/0/BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip
  12. After it’s done, reboot device by typing:
    adb reboot
Congratulation! Your Sony Xperia Z5 is now rooted.

This Root tutorial is only for Sony Xperia E4/E4G smartphones.

Prerequisites:
• Device should have at least 60% charge left on the battery.
• If you have PC Companion, it should be completely turned off to not disturb all the process.
Xperia USB drivers must be installed on PC. Skip this step if you have PC Companion software, it already comes with the necessary drivers.
• USB Debugging and Unknown sources must be enabled on the device. To enable it go to Settings/About phone and keep taping on Build number until you see Developer mode has been turned on. After that go to Settings/Developer Options then check USB Debugging. Go back to Settings then choose Security and check Unknown sources.
Tutorial:
  1. Download to PC iRoot software. Extract and launch it.
  2. Connect Xperia to PC via USB cable.
  3. iRoot will install Chinese app right after device is detected. Do not remove it.
  4. Using iRoot software click on Root button. Root process will take up to 5 minutes. iRoot
  5. After it’s done, you’ll find Kinguser app on device screen.

There are cases when you must relock your device bootloader in order to use your warranty. Otherwise, it can be rejected because of modifications made by user. In this tutorial we’ll show you how to bring back any Sony device bootloader to its factory state. Need to mention, that relock process is far more simple than unlocking bootloader.

Warning: All the information stored in internal memory won’t be deleted, but for safety reasons it’s still recommended to backup your data to device microSD card or PC before starting this tutorial. Otherwise you might lose everything that’s important for you.

Tutorial:

  1. Download this Flashtool to PC.
  2. Launch it and click BLU button.Flashtool BLU
  3. Boot Sony into fastboot mode: turn off the device, hold Volume Up or Back button (depending on the model) and connect it to PC via USB cable. Release button after blue light appears on device.Sony fastboot mode
  4. On the popup window choose Relock button.Flashtool relock
  5. After relock process is complete, disconnect Sony from USB.
  6. Just to make sure that bootloader is locked, open dialer and type *#*#7378423#*#* then go to Service info/Configuration/Rooting Status. If you see „Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes“, this means that bootloader is successfully locked.

This bootloader unlock tutorial is compatible with all Sony Xperia devices.

Prerequisites:
• Check if your Sony device can be unlocked by typing *#*#7378423#*#* in to the dialer. Then go to Service info/Configuration/Rooting Status. If you see „Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes“ that means your device can be unlocked and you can proceed. If you have „Bootloader unlock allowed: No“ status, that means your device is unlockable and you should not proceed.
• The device should have at least 60% charge left on the battery.
ADB and Fastboot drivers must be installed on PC.
Tutorial:
1. Go to Sony developer website and choose your device, then hit Continue
2. Enter your email to approve that you want to continue unlocking bootloader, so the further instructions will be sent.
3. Open your email and click on the link to proceed.
4. Open device dialer and type *#06# to find out your IMEI number.
5. Type IMEI number in to IMEI verification page. Check following boxes and hit Submit.
6. On device go to Settings/About phone and keep taping on Build number until you see Developer mode has been turned on.
7. After that go to Settings/Developer Options then check USB Debugging.
8. Turn off your device, hold down volume up button and connect to PC via USB cable.
9. On PC go to ADB and Fastboot drivers folder and open cmd window: holding shift key, right click on empty space in folder and choose Open command window here.
10. On cmd window type fastboot devices then press enter.
11. You should get a serial number approving that fastboot drivers are working properly. If not, try reinstalling them or connect cable to another PC USB port.
12. On PC scroll down the Sony bootloader unlock instruction page till you find Enter unlock key paragraph with the code you need.
13. Copy fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY line and paste it on cmd window, then hit enter.
14. If everything is ok, you should see finished. total time line.
15. Type fastboot reboot to reboot your Sony device.
That’s it! You can now disconnect your phone from USB.
