OnePlus 3T

In June we made a great OnePlus 3 review and even after 5 months have passed after he hit the market, it’s still one of the best smartphones released in 2016. Despite of that, OnePlus has already decided to raise the bar even higher. Chinese smartphone manufacturer wanted to offer users the best possible experience they can have using Android device, so they’re now offering better hardware with the new OnePlus 3T.

If you found OnePlus 3 design attractive, then you’ll definitely like OnePlus 3T as well. The look of this new model is basically the same as its predecessor. Only slight changes comes on rounded side edges, which seems a bit thinner when before, but still doesn’t affect body dimensions. OnePlus kept the aluminum unibody, camera sticking out on the backside, fingerprint scanner on the front and sound setting hotkeys. Basically all the things which made users to fall in love with the OnePlus 3. So if you are looking for the phone with a premium look and feel, that’s another one from this series. We see no purpose to repeatedly review all of these common features, so lets just head on to the ones which really makes OnePlus 3T strengths stand out.

There’s one thing most of the users found handy on an iPhone, it’s the ability to switch from ringtone to silent mode with a single side button. OnePlus stole this idea giving 3T a similar setup and the ability to switch silent mode on/off without having to turn on the screen. Another great improvement we found on the bottom of the device is the USB 2.0 Type-C port giving all day battery life just in a 30 minutes of charging. Next to the charging port there’s a headphone jack. Yes, the good old standard 3.5mm jack which you won’t find on iPhone 7.
The OnePlus 3T comes with a Full-HD screen which these days has good and bad sides. On one hand, the energy consumption is not too high, particularly with the AMOLED screen, but the downside is that the definition is not ideal for VR. Furthermore, if you’re a smartphone manufacturer, you should know that some of your competitors now puts Quad-HD resolution display in their new devices.
Nevertheless, the screen is quite good. The colors are bright and you can adjust the display settings yourself by calibrating the screen, setting the color temperature differently or using the sRGB mode.

Back of the phone has Sony 16MP camera, with built-in f/2.0 aperture lens and a pixel size of 1.12 microns. Even if the camera is the same as on OnePlus 3, you can find slight quality difference only by comparing captured images side by side. The notable changes is on the edge-to-edge sharpness of the OnePlus 3T photos. However, this will be most apparent in good shooting conditions, like on a bright sunny day.
Now, the major changes is made in the front, where another 16 MP camera is integrated. Looking at the details you’ll notice that it’s not the same as the back one, it’s a Samsung 3P8SP with f/2.0 aperture. The quality is more than good for selfies and using this powerful front camera you can take videos up to 4K resolution. It’s a huge improvement when comparing it with earlier OnePlus 3 model, which has 8MP selfie shooter.

OnePlus 3T runs a bit faster, thanks to 2.35 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. According to Qualcomm, it’s 10% more powerful than the 820 series clocking up to 2.15 GHz. Along with new processor stands the latest Adreno 530 graphics chip, boasting at least a 5% performance while keeping low battery consumption. And talking about the memory, new flagman has 6GB of RAM, plus 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
Whole energy on OnePlus 3 is coming from a sufficient 3000 mAh capacity, but this time company decided to go a step beyond with the OnePlus 3T by integrating a larger 3.400 mAh battery in the same size device, without making any design concessions. It’s one of the most intelligent thing manufacturer did and he deserve to be proud of it.
It’s also good to know that new device has dual SIM feature, where you can use both nano SIM trays, but unfortunately OnePlus 3T doesn’t support microSD card slot.

After we mentioned all the most important details about this flagman, lets check the last and probably the most important criteria – the price. OnePlus 3T is a bit expensive than the OnePlus 3 was, but it’s usual for all new models changing their predecessors. The Soft Gold 64 GB model is now available in the US for $439 and from November 28 in Europe. The 128 GB model will be available in the Gunmetal color for $479.
