You probably noticed that the YouTube Vanced application has been banned and you are no longer allowed to view any YouTube videos. After pressing Play on any video, the message “The following content is not available on this app” pops up. Most of the users are questioning when and why did this happen? Let’s take a brief look at all the factors that caused this situation.
The YouTube Vanced project
The world-class application, introduced back in 2017 and functioning quite perfectly for almost 6 years, was suspended a few weeks ago and then disconnected from the servers. Why this project was closed and who initiated it, the answer is one – Google. For a long time, the technology giant tolerated and turned a blind eye to the Vanced project, but when it gained global popularity, the owner of YouTube was forced to take action. It’s no secret that YouTube’s main revenue comes from advertising broadcast to viewers, and that’s exactly what Vanced circumvented by allowing users to enjoy all of YouTube’s content without any annoying ads.
While tracking the usage statistics of the regular YouTube app, Google noticed that it was losing user share. No one had any questions about who overtook them, and there were enough reasons to close this project. From a legal perspective, Vanced’s development team committed a critical violation by allowing users to enjoy all of YouTube’s content while bypassing the monetization model (advertising) that rewards video creators for their content.
Google is taking action
Google has always been hostile to any kind of piracy and strictly fights for copyright. Not only their intellectual property products and services but also copyrights that protect creators from plagiarism or illegal use of their work.
YouTube Vanced app, which allows you to enjoy all of YouTube’s content without any compensation to creators by viewing ads, was more than a misdemeanor. This is a project that undermines the fundamental business model and copyright values of the YouTube platform. When the Vanced application gained worldwide popularity, it was only a matter of time before Google finally responded and took steps to shut down what they consider to be a pirated project.
After filing a lawsuit against the creators YouTube Vanced application has been banned. A few weeks ago YouTube Vanced developers announced that they had to end support for the app by longer providing updates. They also clarified that the existing version, which is used by hundreds of millions of users, will continue to function as it has until it officially won’t be supported by the Android OS itself in a few years. However, a few days ago the current version of YouTube Vanced stopped working providing the above-mentioned displayed message.
What’s next?
Most of the users enjoying the YouTube Vanced application appreciated the fact that it was possible to listen to music or any YouTube video while the phone screen was off or locked. Another very big advantage is that YouTube Vanced application functions without any forced advertising. This will be greatly missed by all of us.
History shows that even pirated apps and software that have gained global popularity among users, sooner or later are resurrected. This is exactly what we will talk about in our next article, introducing and giving free downloads of a perfectly working alternative to YouTube Vanced.
P.S. An application that was developed by the same YouTube Vanced team!
